About Python DAP Debugger
Adds a Python debugger backend powered by debugpy and the Debug Adapter Protocol (DAP) to all JetBrains IDEs that support Python.
Key improvements over the default pydevd backend
• Lower debugging overhead — especially on Python 3.12+ thanks to PEP 669 monitoring hooks. • More stable connection model — communicates with the debugger through DAP, reducing hangs and connection-related failures. • Support for all standard run configurations — Python scripts, pytest, unittest, doctest, nosetest, tox, Trial, and uv.
After installation, switch to the debugpy backend via the Mode selector in the Debug tool window toolbar.
Requirements: Python 3.9 or later. Local interpreters only (remote interpreters are not yet supported).
