About noship-app
Freeze deployments, not development.
Org-wide code freeze management for GitHub. Block merges and deployments with configurable windows, recurring schedules, and emergency overrides. Zero code access required.
Features
Merge Blocking
PRs show a failing NoShip check when a freeze is active. Add NoShip as a required status check in your branch protection settings and merges are blocked automatically -- no manual intervention needed.
Deployment Protection Rules
Native integration with GitHub Deployment Protection Rules. GitHub enforces deployment blocks at the platform level, so deployments are rejected before they even start.
Recurring Schedules
Define freeze patterns using RRULE (iCalendar recurrence rules). Freeze every Friday at 3pm and unfreeze Monday at 9am. Freeze the last week of every quarter. Set it once and forget it.
Emergency Overrides
When production is on fire, teams can request an emergency override. Admins approve or deny. Overrides are one-time use, time-limited (configurable TTL), and fully audited.
Glob Pattern Rules
Scope freezes precisely with glob patterns:
• org/api-* to freeze all API repos • main or release/* for specific branches • production or prod* for specific environments • * to freeze everything
How it works
1. Install the GitHub App
Install NoShip on your GitHub organization. Select which repositories to monitor. NoShip requests zero code access -- only the metadata permissions needed to manage status checks and deployments.
2. Configure freeze windows
Create one-off or recurring freeze windows from the dashboard. Define rules: which repos, which branches, which environments, and whether to block merges, deployments, or both.
3. Add as required status check
In your repo's branch protection settings, add NoShip as a required status check. For deployments, add NoShip as a deployment protection rule. This is what gives NoShip enforcement power.
4. Manage from the dashboard
Monitor freeze status across all repos, handle override requests, review audit logs, and manage schedules -- all from one place.
